First-Aid Unit of Mahinda College had been registered as a member of St John Ambulance Service who isserving Sri Lanka under the motto of “PRO UTILITATE HOMINUM” (Service for the Mankind). St John Ambulance Service is passing their Century Celebrations this year and First-Aid unit of Mahinda College had been with them for last 73 years under the name of “Mahinda Ambulance Division”.Mahinda Ambulance Division is one of the oldest divisions that are working with St John Ambulance Service’s Galle City Corps. This Division had been registered as a Cadet Division in the year 2001 and it is one of the firstly registered Ambulance Cadet Divisions in Sri Lanka. Present Mahinda Ambulance Division registered with St John Ambulance Service under the name of Mahinda Ambulance Cadet Division.Members of Mahinda Ambulance Division are serving their college and mankind with their heart. Every week day they are conducting their first-aid services in the school. They are at least treating 2000 casualties per year. Other than this service they give First-Aid Service every special programme conducts by the college and in galle district. In the most recent disaster TSUNAMI Mahinda Ambulance Divisioners are the one only people who act as to their motto and served people with humanity. They had given first-aid service to affected people from 9.40am of 26th December 2004 till 09th January 2005 continuously. In the incidents Mahinda Divisioners saved more than 30 life’s and found more 80 dead bodies in around Galle area. They have treated more than 4000 casualties in Tsunami Camps with the help of the members from Maharagama & Waththala Divisions of Colombo. They were stationed in Allusious Church and visited almost every Tsunami Camp in Galle District. But they do not have any Photographs or Video clips to prove that they had done so because they didn’t waste the time to search such things.Mahinda Divisioners are organizing so many programmes every year and they are adding a new one every year. In the most recent passing-out conduted by Galle City Open Division Mahinda Ambulance Divisioners won 7 prizes out of 11 and was honoured as the Best First-Aid team of Galle City Area. This was held in year 2000 at Sangamiththa College Ground.Presently Mahinda Division’s runs under the guidance of the honourable principal Mr. Susil Premanath and Master In charge Mrs. M.A.C. Tharanga.

M.A.D.’S A.C.T.
M.A.D.’S A.C.T. is the name of the annual Divisional camp organized by Mahinda Division. M.A.D’S A.C.T. is relates to Mahinda Ambulance cadet Division’S Annual Camp of Training. They have been organizing this event annually since year 2000. There had been 06 M.A.D.’S A.C.T. programmes till last year.First M.A.D.’S A.C.T only had been held as a three day programme. But last year it had been held foe 10 days. Non Commissioned and Commissioned of Mahinda division is acting as the organizer of this event and the Divisional Superintendent of that time will be the Camp Commandant and the Sergeant or Cadet Leader will be the Camping Leader.In M.A.D’S A.C.T. members of Mahinda Division will be devided in to five groups. They are Gajaba, Singha, Gamunu, Vijayaba, Vijaya. Through the programme they have to work as teams and face the obstacles that created by the Organizers. In this Organizer’s gets a chance to find the future leader of Mahinda Ambulance cadet Division and have a chance to Train every one to Lead and to be led. Every participant must spend their leisure time in a tent and they have to cook their own food during the camping time. This also goes to the organizers. M.A.D.’S A.C.T. is the one and only Division Camp in Sri Lanka that award medals to the people who successfully completing the camping time.On the last day of the Camp they invites all the Parents, teacher and other divisoners and officers to the camp fire. Every year more than 300 invitees are participates this event and Mahinda Division is the only Division that gives them a Dinner that made from the hands of campers.In year 2003 they had organized a Super Camp inviting sister and brother divisions in galle district. Seven divisions took part in this Camp and it went through for 03 days. In 2003 that’s how they had celebrated their 70th anniversary.

M.A.D.’S OATH
Every year all the newly appointed rankers and recruit soldiers get-together in M.A.D.’S OATH. There they promises to Server the Mankind with Humanity and also to carry the pride prestige of Mahinda Ambulance Division on their Back with the experience they had gathered, until they pass it to the next generation.
Get together with M.A.D.
This is a programme conducted by M.A.D.’S. In this programme to either gather their officers, parents or their school teacher and gives them a chance to spend a jovial day with delight. This is one of the newest event they are conducting in their annual programme from this year.
M.A.D.’S Day
Mahinda Ambulance Cadet Division is organizing a First-Aid day. They name it as the M.A.D.’S Day. The main idea of organizing this day is to gather the sister and brother divisions in Galle area together and to give them a chance to recognize and to get to know each other well and allowing them to have a chance to show their abilities and capabilities.
First M.A.D. day had been held in 1992 and it was the first First-Aid day that organized in Sri Lanka. Since then they had organized eight M.A.D.’S days. The last M.A.D.’S Day that had been held was in year 2005.
Nowadays some divisions are organizing First-Aid Days. But M.A.D.’S Day is the Only First-Aid Day that has a Full day programme. And every first aider in Galle Area dreaming of having a chance to Participate for a M.A.D.’S Day.

M.A.D.’S Challenge
M.A.D.’S Challenge is the programme that conduted by Mahinda Division to the newcomers. The idea of organizing this event is to give a chance to the new comers to understand the work that is done by the Mahinda Ambulance Division and to give them a chance to think weather they can take apart with Mahinda Ambulance Division and to take the path towards success and to train some mahindians as future leaders.They also use this Event to train Noncommissioned Officer to organized the Main Event M.A.D.’S A.C.T.. Every one who is participating M.A.D.’S Challenge does not have to take hand with Mahinda Ambulance Division. But they all will receive a well recognized certificate at the end for participating. First M.A.D. Challenge was held in 2004 and they have been organizing this event since then annually in the first term.
Poson Programme
Mahinda Ambulance Divisioners started a poson programme last year. They are thinking of continuing this programme also as an annual programme. Last year they made a poson Lenten and gave “Dansala”.
This year they also Made a Poson Lenten and also Made 100 lanterns to hang all around Honourable Ollcot Hall. In this programme they lighted 2500 clay oil lamps and continuing giving their Dansala this year too. They are organizing this poson programme on Poson Full Moon Poya day.
