Mahinda College Sinhala Oratory and Debating Society is a historical society which is established in regarding to Mahinda-Richmond Annual Big Debate which is a parallel event in Mahinda-Richmond Big Match. Thus Mahinda College Debating Team has a history of 110 years. Many great characters like Professor Nihal Samarathne, Professor Somarathna Kodagoda, Parliamentarian Manusha Nanayakkara and many other journalists like Sundara Nihathamanee de Mal was born through Mahinda College Debating Team.

In 2008 – 2009 Mahinda College was the most dominating Debating Team in Sri Lanka. In 2009 Mahinda College debating Team was champions of Debating tournament by beating Thurston, Dharmaraja, Ananda, Rahula Colleges.

Since 2008 Mahinda College Debating Team has won 20 trophies. Recently we become champions of Dharmaraja College debating tournament and right now on all island debating tournament. This society plays a significant role in Mahinda College Big Match by organizing Friendly Big Debate. And also they organize Frank Lee Woodward All Island Debating Tournament and Annual Friendly Debating Tournament.
